October Appearances Roundup

October is Spooky Season, which makes it a busy time for horror writers. And I do mean busy. And by that I mean I’m never launching a book in October again because the whole month is a bit of a gauntlet. A fun gauntlet full of amazing things and wonderful people, but a gauntlet nonetheless.

I kicked off the month with a reading at Bucket O’ Blood Books and Records in Chicago. If you haven’t been, it’s a must visit destination for horror fans, full of great books old and new, and a huge selection of heavy metal music on vinyl.

Hopefully, I did the place proud with my reading from Downpour (my first public reading ever for this book!) I was joined by Damian Serbu and Lauren Bolger, two amazing local horror authors. If you haven’t read their work yet, you definitely should.

Next up was the Terrifying Tomes of Terror, a book fair which was held for the very first time this year in Bloomington, Illinois. This was an amazing event, with horror fans lining up before the event even opened. I got to meet a lot of great people–writers and readers alike–and sold a lot of books. I can’t wait to do it again next year!

At the Haunted Library event at the Glen Ellyn Public Library, I got to try my hand at writing for theater by creating a haunted-house-style vignette that was performed  by local high school theater students. It was a lot of fun to see something I created come to life like that, and even more fun to see people’s reactions!

Last, but not least, was a huge event at the Barnes & Noble in Algonquin, Illinois. Over a dozen writers came together for a panel and readings to close out the month in epic fashion. It was my first big-chain bookstore event, and definitely won’t be the last!
